Method 1: Doha Metro to Lusail
Want to save money and skip the highway traffic? The Doha Metro is your best bet.
It’s easily the most budget-friendly way to get to Lusail. Plus, the metro system is ultra-modern, super clean, and fully air-conditioned. You can just relax and glide right past all the cars on the expressway, all for less than a cup of coffee.
Step-by-Step Guide to the Metro in Doha
Using the metro is simple. Here’s exactly what to do.
- Get Your Travel Card: First, you need a reusable travel card. You can buy one from the vending machines at any station. The card itself costs a one-time fee of QAR 10 (about $3 USD). Then, you just add credit for your trips.
- Find Your Station: You can hop on the metro from any major hub in Doha. Look for central stations like Msheireb (the main interchange), DECC, or West Bay.
- Board the Right Line: This part is easy. You need the Red Line. Just follow the signs heading north (the direction is "Al Wakra").
- Know Your Stop: Your main destination stop is Lusail QNB. This station drops you right at the gateway to Lusail city. It is also the main station you will use to connect to the F1 shuttles during the Grand Prix.
How Much Does Doha Metro Cost?
From a central station like Msheireb, the train journey itself takes about 30 minutes. A single journey costs only QAR 2. If you plan to ride all day, a day pass costs just QAR 6. It's an incredible value.
Tips for using the Doha Metro
The metro runs from Saturday to Thursday (about 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM) and on Fridays (about 9:00 AM to 1:00 AM). The hours can change for holidays, so it's always good to check the Qatar Rail app.
The trains have different sections. You will see "Standard" carriages, "Family" carriages (for women and families), and "Gold Club." Stick to the Standard or Family carriages to use your 2 QAR fare. Gold Club requires a different, more expensive card.
Method 2: TravelThru Private Transfer
If you value comfort and privacy, a pre-booked transfer is the best choice. This is the "set it and forget it" option for a completely stress-free journey.
It's perfect for travelers arriving at Hamad International Airport with luggage, business professionals on a schedule, or anyone who just wants to avoid the hassle of waiting in a taxi line.
Why Choose TravelThru Over On-Demand Taxis?
- No Surge Pricing. We’ve all seen those crazy-high fares on taxi apps during busy times. With TravelThru, the price you see when you book is the exact price you pay. It’s a fixed, transparent rate, which is a huge relief during peak hours or big events like the Grand Prix.
- Your driver is ready when you are. You don't have to wait in a queue or hope for a ride. Your professional, vetted driver will be waiting for you at your scheduled time. It ensures guaranteed punctuality, which is ideal for airport arrivals or tight schedules.
- Premium service and vehicles. This isn't your average taxi. You’ll travel in a clean, high-quality vehicle. Your local, expert driver knows the best routes to Lusail, including all the major hotels and attractions like Place Vendôme or Al Maha Island.
- True door-to-door convenience. Your driver picks you up directly from your hotel lobby or airport terminal and takes you straight to your destination. No extra walking or confusion needed.
How to Book Your Transfer
Booking is simple and takes just about 60 seconds.
Visit the TravelThru website before your trip. Enter your pickup point (like "Hamad International Airport") and your destination (like "Lusail International Circuit" or your hotel). You can select your vehicle and book your ride in advance. It’s that easy.
Method 3: Driving
If you have your own car or a rental, driving gives you the most freedom. This is a great option for residents, families, or anyone who wants to explore Lusail's different attractions on their own schedule.
The Main Route
Getting to Lusail is very straightforward.
The best route is the Lusail Expressway. This is a modern, multi-lane highway that directly connects Doha to Lusail. It's well-signed and easy to navigate.
The total distance is about 19 to 22 kilometers (12 to 14 miles) from Doha's West Bay area. With no traffic, you can usually make the trip in about 20 minutes. Just a quick heads-up: always check Google Maps or Waze before you leave to get the latest on traffic!
Parking in Lusail
Finding a spot to park is usually easy for most of our trips. There are numerous free parking spots available at great locations, such as the Place Vendôme Mall and throughout the Lusail Marina.
However, there is one major exception. This does not apply to the Grand Prix. You cannot simply drive to the circuit and park. You will need a special, pre-purchased parking pass to access the event parking areas.
Method 4: Public Bus
For travelers who are not in a hurry and want to travel like a true local, the public bus system is an option.
The buses are run by Mowasalat (Karwa) and are clean and safe. However, this is the slowest way to get to Lusail. Most routes are set up for local travel or to connect to the Metro stations, so they're not ideal if you're looking for a quick, direct route from the city center to Lusail.
How to Use the Bus
You cannot pay with cash on the bus. You must buy a KARWA Smart Card first. You can get a card at ticket vending machines at the airport, Doha Bus Station, or at various partner merchants around the city.
The best options for visitors are:
- Limited Card (QAR 10): Good for two journeys within 24 hours.
- Unlimited Card (QAR 20): Gives you unlimited trips for 24 hours.
An Honest Assessment
We are including this option to be thorough, but we'll be honest.
The bus will take much longer than any other method, often 45 to 60 minutes or more, and will likely involve multiple stops.
For nearly the same low price, the Doha Metro is significantly faster, more comfortable, and much easier to navigate for visitors. We only recommend the bus if you are on an extremely tight budget and are not adhering to a strict schedule.
How to Get to the Lusail International Circuit
Headed to the big race? Getting to the 2025 Qatar Grand Prix is a special mission. It is different from just going to Lusail city, so pay close attention.
The circuit is located about 10km (6 miles) north of the main Lusail QNB metro station. You cannot walk from the metro.
To help you plan for race day, here are your available transportation options.
Metro
Step 1: Take the Metro. Hop on the Doha Metro Red Line and ride it all the way north to the final stop: Lusail QNB Station.
Step 2: Connect to the Shuttle. Once you exit the station, just follow the signs for the free F1 shuttle buses. These are dedicated, complimentary buses just for ticket holders. They will take you directly from the station to the circuit's main gates.
Our Tip: This is a popular choice, so expect the metro and the shuttles to be very busy. Give yourself at least 60 to 90 minutes of total travel time from central Doha to be safe.
Pre-Booked Private Transfer (TravelThru)
If you want a guaranteed, comfortable, and private journey, a pre-booked TravelThru transfer is the best option.
Your professional driver will navigate the special event traffic and road closures. They know exactly where to go and will take you to the official drop-off and pick-up zone, getting you as close as possible to the entrance. You completely bypass the chaos of on-demand taxi queues and unpredictable surge pricing.
Our Tip: Book your return trip well in advance. Do not try to book a car when the race or concert ends. Secure your ride home before you go, so your driver is waiting for you.
Driving
You can drive your own car, but you need to plan ahead.
There is free parking available at the circuit, but it is very limited and fills up extremely fast. Do not assume you will get a spot, especially on race day.
Additionally, do not follow your usual GPS route. Special event routes will be in place. You should follow Exit 29B on the Al Khor Coastal Road and then follow all signs for "Spectators" to reach the designated parking areas.
Taxis / On-Demand Ride-Hailing
We strongly advise against relying on on-demand taxis or apps for your trip home.
While you can easily get a taxi to the circuit, trying to get one leaving the event is a nightmare. Getting a taxi to the circuit is straightforward, but leaving the event is a whole different story. Expect crazy surge pricing, extremely long waits, and a totally chaotic, congested pickup area that's a fair distance from the main gate.

Don't leave your transportation to chance. Plan ahead, enjoy the ride, and make your trip from Doha to Lusail a perfect one.
